The Roots Of Yoga
The Bhagavad Gita & Applied Yogic Living
The Bhagavad Gita & Applied Yogic Living
This course offers a comprehensive study of the 18 chapters of the Bhagavad Gita. While the Sutras provide the “map” of the mind, the Gita provides the “manual” for living in the world. We explore how to maintain inner peace while fulfilling our duties in the midst of life’s chaos.
01
The Philosophical Foundation (The "Context")
- The Setting of the Gita: Understanding the battlefield of Kurukshetra as a metaphor for the internal conflicts we face daily.
- The Concept of Dharma: Distinguishing between Universal Dharma and Swadharma (individual purpose/nature) as the basis for mental stability.
- The Three Gunas (Sattva, Rajas, Tamas): A deep study of the three forces of nature that drive all human behavior, decision-making, and psychological states.
02
The Technical Transmission (The 18 Chapters)
- Karma Yoga – The Yoga of Action (Chapters 1–6): A detailed study of the path of selfless service. We analyze Arjuna’s crisis, the immortality of the soul, and how to act without attachment to results (Nishkama Karma).
- Bhakti Yoga – The Yoga of Devotion (Chapters 7–12): Exploring the nature of the Divine, the power of faith, and the path of surrender. This includes the Vishwa-rupa Darshana (The Universal Form) and the qualities of a steady devotee.
- Jnana Yoga – The Yoga of Knowledge (Chapters 13–18): Analyzing the "Field and the Knower," the three Gunas in depth, and the final synthesis of liberation. We conclude with the "Three-fold" classification of food, faith, and renunciation.

The "Living Gita" Application (Core of the Course)
Throughout the course, we move from the text to the “Battlefield of Life,” applying the Gita’s wisdom to modern existence through four key pillars:
Mastery of Action
Practicing the art of doing your best in every task while letting go of the anxiety over the final outcome.
Psychological Self-Audit
Using the framework of the Gunas to recognize when your mind is in a state of dullness, agitation, or clarity, and learning how to shift back to balance.
Values-Based Decision Making
Learning to navigate personal and professional crossroads by prioritizing duty and purpose over short-term pleasure or fear.
Cultivating Inner Stability
Developing “Evenness of Mind” (Samatvam) so that your internal peace is not disrupted by the external ups and downs of success, failure, praise, or criticism.
